The Motherhood Series

A group multi-arts reflective practice

The Practice

The Motherhood Series is a small group, multi-arts reflective practice for mothers, offered within The Collective. It brings together image, writing, sound and quiet reflection as ways of listening to, noticing, and making meaning of the experience of motherhood. The Motherhood series is not a course or therapy, and isn’t a skills-based program. It is a gently held, non-clinical space to pause, reflect and be with various aspects of motherhood in the company of others. The series unfolds over several sessions, allowing themes, images and questions to be revisited and to deepen over time.

The Motherhood Series offers:

  • A small, thoughtful group space for mothers

  • Time to reflect away from problem-solving or fixing

  • Multiple creative ways of exploring experience

  • A sense of continuity and rhythm across a short series

  • A place for stories, images and questions held with care

Rather than aiming for outcomes or interventions, the emphasis is on making space for what is present, connecting to experience rather than the tasks of motherhood, and allowing understanding to take shape gradually.

Who This is For

The Motherhood Series may may suit you if you:

  • Are a mother wanting a reflective, non-clinical space

  • Feel drawn to creative ways of exploring experience and making memories

  • Want something slower and less directive than groups focused on skills or education

  • Are already in therapy and want a non-clinical, creative space

  • Are curious about sharing a reflective process with other mothers.

No artistic skill or experience is needed. This is about attention and presence, meaning and identity.

The Process

Each series is lightly guided and unfolds over a small number of sessions. Sessions may include gentle prompts, time with materials or images, moments of quiet reflection and space for conversation.

The pace is unhurried. There is no expectation to share more than feels right, and no pressure to produce anything in particular.

While emotions may be present and are held with care, this work does not involve emotional or trauma processing. The focus is on reflection, creative enquiry and meaning-making rather than therapeutic intervention.
